About the Role

As a Data Engineer, you will design, build, and optimize the critical data infrastructure that powers our analytics and research. You will take ownership of data pipelines and modeling tools to solve complex financial, economic, and policy-related challenges in the energy industry. This role is an opportunity to architect and implement solutions using Python, machine learning, and modern data engineering frameworks to work with real-world datasets in energy finance and investment analysis.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines to process and analyze diverse financial, economic, and policy-related datasets.
  • Design and develop robust analytics tools and models to extract actionable insights from large and complex energy sector data.
  • Lead the application of Python and machine learning for advanced data processing, analysis, and predictive modeling.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries to drive data transformations, reporting, and analytics.
  • Implement advanced data modeling techniques to support economic forecasting, financial analysis, and policy research.
  • Transform both structured and unstructured data to drive meaningful insights in energy finance and regulation.

What We’re Looking For

Must-Haves:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Finance, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data science, or a related analytics role.
  • Expert programming skills in Python and deep familiarity with data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Polars, etc.).
  • Proven experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data engineering frameworks and paradigms.
  • A strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and ETL workflows.
  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL for data retrieval and transformation.
  • A demonstrated interest in finance, economics, and policy within the energy industry.

Preferred:

  • Experience in economic modelling.
  • Knowledge of energy markets, carbon pricing, and regulatory policies.
  • Based in Calgary, AB.
